Garuda Hacks Tracks

"Identity Through Innovation"

Garuda Hacks 6.0 challenges participants to build solutions that bring Indonesia’s ideals closer to its lived reality. Whether through sustainability, cultural preservation, or civic engagement, this hackathon is about transforming narratives into tangible impact.

Expected Themes for Projects:

  1. Cultural Preservation Platforms: Apps that digitally archive and promote Indonesia's rich cultural heritage (e.g., gamified traditional arts, *VR-based heritage tours).
  2. National Identity Builders: Social platforms or storytelling tools enabling youth to share visions and personal narratives of Indonesia’s future.
  3. Civic Engagement Tools: Apps that encourage active participation in *national development, such as interactive policymaking platforms or initiatives for solving local issues.

Tracks (aim to have 2 or 3)

  1. Education and Equality

Focus: Indonesia has one of the largest youth populations in the world, yet disparities in education persist. Many children in rural areas lack access to quality schools, trained teachers, or even basic educational tools. Additionally, education is often not inclusive for students with disabilities or those who speak regional dialects. Design solutions that promote equitable access to education and resources for all Indonesians, regardless of geography or socioeconomic status.

  2. Sustainability: Building a Greener Indonesia

Focus: As one of the world's largest emitters of greenhouse gases, Indonesia faces severe environmental issues, including deforestation, waste management, and pollution in urban and rural areas. Rising sea levels and increased natural disasters, like flooding, threaten millions of lives annually. We challenge you to tackle these pressing environmental challenges to create a greener, more sustainable future for the archipelago.

  3. Connecting Cultures

Focus: Devise solutions that aim to promote Indonesia’s heterogenous communities, and promote the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity).

With over 17,000 islands and 300 distinct ethnic groups, Indonesia is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. However, communities are fraught with communication gaps and regional disparities in economic and social development. Leverage technology to build tools and platforms that celebrate this diversity, bridge divides, and promote unity through shared understanding and collaboration.
